Knife Design

We at Sarkis Blades are always striving to achieve knives that not only look completely beautiful and unique but the knives also have the performance and precision to excel at all the tasks that style of knife was designed to perform.

Not all knives are created equal, each selected knife is accurately ground down to its predetermined final thickness to help that knife to surpass the users expectations.

E.g:

-Kitchen Knives are thinned down to a feathers edge of ~0.2-0.1mm so that the knife would slice through meat and produce with relative ease.

-Cleavers and select outdoor knives are thinned down to a robust .5mm so that users have the confidence to chop through materials like wood and bone while also having the flexibility to perform kitchen tasks should they choose.

Steels Used

The steels we primarily use are German 1075/1084 High carbon and 15N20 nickel steels. These steels are staples in the knifemaking industry for being reliable, robust and do a great job holding a razor edge while also being easy to sharpen. 1084 and 15N20 are also the primary steels used in a lot of high end Damascus steel blades.

The one draw with Carbons steels is that if they are not thoroughly dried after cleaning and given a thin coat of oil when stored for long periods of time, They will develop rust so proper care is necessary with these steels. Over prolonged use these steels will develop a lovely bluish/brown patina, which adds another layer of rust prevention to the blade.

In the future we will have stainless steel options available to allow for more user-friendly knives.

Handle Materials

-G10. G-10 is a high-pressure fiberglass laminate, a type of composite material. Used for its high strength and low water absorption. Colour options are Black, Toxic Yellow, Red, Blue, White, Pink, Orange and Green.

-Dyed and Stabilized Timber. Stabilizing involves submerging the wood in an epoxy resign under a vacuum, this provides added structural support and waterproofs the wood so it is less prone to expanding when wet. Dying the wood gives it another layer of beauty and creates a true one of a kind handle.

Segmented Handles

Segmented handles are made by cutting and gluing varies sections of G10 onto a sturdy G10 base giving you a handle with lots of interesting features and combinations whiles also having strong support.

We at Sarkis blades are looking at different ways of pushing the envelope in segmented handle style and design by implementing a combination of different techniques and materials to create a truly beautiful and fresh take on this style of handle.
